What Makes a Criminal?
What are the factors that lead some people to commit crime and not others? Is it personal choice or are some of us pre determined to become offenders?

A passion for understanding the criminal mind
An avid fan of true crime since I was a child, my first experience of working alongside law enforcement was as a Door Supervisor in my early 20s. I followed this with a career in mental health support where I ended up managing a supported living facility for mentally unwell men with co-morbid addictions and forensic backgrounds. This led me to working in a Cat C male prison in the North of England on an offender behaviour programme. I will use this experience, knowledge from a Criminology degree module and a morbid fascination with all things criminal to ponder the following questions plus more…
Is crime a choice or a pre determined way of life?
What part does mental health play in criminality?
Is there a genetic link to offending?
Why is prison a deterrent to some people and not to others?
What are the biggest risk factors which lead to offending behaviour?
